Kathleen Diane Clark, 65, of Rickreall died Aug. 9 in Rickreall after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Salem to John T. and Dorothy Anderson.

She attended Rickreall Elementary School and Academy Junior High, and finished her schooling at Dallas High.

She spent most of her summers as a child working in the fields and at the Polk County Fair, where she showed cattle. She also attended vacation Bible school at the Oak Grove Church.

She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, John W. Clark Jr., on Jan. 27, 1962. They spent most of their years living in Dallas and the surrounding areas. The last several years of her life were spent living on the Anderson Family Farm in Rickreall, where she cared for her mother.

She spent 28 years as a homemaker before going to work as a housekeeping supervisor at Dallas Nursing Home. She enjoyed working with the elderly and was very caring and loving, often doing extra things to make the residents feel special.

She was a passionate, fun-loving, happy-go-lucky, beautiful person who always had a good joke to tell or prank to pull. She loved her family more than anything. When she wasn't watching children or grandchildren, she enjoyed spending time gardening, upholstering, reading, fixing things and spending time at the beach.

She was preceded in death by siblings, David Anderson and Janice Raby.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Clark Jr.; children, Rhonda (Paul) Futrell of Rickreall, Cindy Sarff of Monmouth, Kirk (Bee) Clark of Rickreall and Christy Leber of Rickreall; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Ginger) Anderson of Keizer; and sisters, Marilyn Craig of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Kay Marsland of Keizer, Margie (Bill) Warkentin of Bend, Arlene (Dean) Olheiser of Salem and Janet Fleming of Aumsville.

At her request there will be no service.

A celebration of her life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the family farm.

Greg Norwest, 39, crossed over on Aug. 7 at his home in Portland.

He was born in Salem to Klamath Tribal Elder Calvin Shadley and Tribal Elder Vernita Harris-Norwest.

He grew up in the Salem area and attended local schools. He most recently lived in the Portland area, where he worked in construction.

In his younger years he enjoyed wrestling and was active in sports throughout school. When he became a dad he took his responsibilities seriously and loved his children very much. He was a strong protector of his family and they enjoyed the times they spent together.

Greg was also an excellent poet and wrote many beautiful poems. He enjoyed drawing and could draw most anything from memory. He was a generous person and also had an ornery personality, which his friends and family loved. He enjoyed listening to rap music, oldies and blues.

Survivors include his children, Sierra and Phenix Norwest of Portland; father, Calvin "Buttons" Shadley; and siblings, Rhonda Miller, Kenneth Foster, Clifford Case, Janet Case, Shelly Norwest, Brenda Shadley, Laura Shadley, Leanna Shadley and Tony Waits.

Service was Aug. 13 at the Tribal Gymnasium in Grand Ronde. Interment followed at the Grand Ronde Tribal Cemetery.

Horace Faulkner, 81, of Independence died Aug. 2.

Private burial service with internment will be held at Fir Crest Cemetery.

Celebration of his life is from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Elks Club in Independence.

Doris M. Wilson, 93, of Monmouth died Aug. 13 in Salem.

She was born in Airlie to Henry "Phin" and Janet "Jennie" Cummings Whitaker.

Doris married Paul Wilson on Jan. 27, 1936, in Salem.

Doris enjoyed attending reunions, celebrating birthdays and other special family events. In her early retirement years, Doris had been active in senior center activities and dances, playing cards with friends, and assisting senior citizens with transportation and home care. She had been an avid bowler in local, state and national bowling tournaments. She enjoyed being a member of the Sassy Rosebuds Red Hat Society while living at Heron Pointe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1976.

Survivors include her children, Bobby (Thetis) Wilson and Arlene (Dave) Stone; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Aug. 17 at City View Cemetery in Salem. A reception followed in City View Chapel.

Francis C. Kettleson, 89, of Salem died Jan. 11.

He was born in Barron, Wis., to Lloyd and Agnes Ruddy Kettleson.

Frank graduated from Willamette University with a bachelor's degree and received his master's degree from Oregon State University. He taught at Chemawa Indian School for three years and then in Dallas for 23 years, retiring in 1980.

Frank helped form the Mid-Willamette Valley Senior Services Agency, now NorthWest Senior and Disability Services. In 2008, Frank celebrated 25 years of service as a member of the agency's Senior Advisory Council, representing the interests of seniors in Polk, Clatsop, Marion, Tillamook and Yamhill counties. He was a past senior advisory council chairman and vice chairman. Frank was also past chairman of the statewide O4AD Association of Senior Advisory Council Chairs.

Frank had been active in the Polk County community for many years. He was a longtime Rotarian and had served on the Dallas City Council for 10 years. He was a member of Keizer Elks and East Salem Rotary and enjoyed golf and bowling.

Frank married Allene M. Beard on Feb. 2, 1944, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salem.

Allene Kettleson, 88, of Salem died Aug. 8.

She was born in El Reno, Okla., to Floyd and Mabel MacNeish Beard.

Allene graduated from Salem High School and attended Merritt Davis School of Commerce. She was elected Polk County Clerk in 1974. She served as Polk County Clerk from 1974-1979.

Allene was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and enjoyed crafts, knitting and reading.

Survivors include their son, Michael; daughter, Patricia; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial service is at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, Salem.

Freda Maurine Brite, 84, of Independence died Aug. 13 in Salem.

She was born in Siloan Springs, Ark., to Nathan and Velma Clark Leach.

Freda moved to Oregon in 1955 from Fresno, Calif., and to Independence from Eugene in 1959.

Freda enjoyed knitting, sewing and reading.

At her request no service will be held.

Steven Guy Jones, 53, of Dallas died Aug. 11 in Dallas following a long illness.

He was born in Petaluma, Calif., and was a resident of the Salem and Dallas areas for the past 20 years.

He loved many simple pleasures including music, outdoors, sports, spending time with good friends, honesty, and eating Tamera's food. He was a true product of the pop culture, and was the life of the party besides being the unknown comic. He also loved the Lord and his church family and was a wonderful person.

Steven served in the Coast Guard in Alaska on the U.S. Coast Guard Laurel. He attended college and worked in several areas of electronic and semiconductor manufacturing. But what he loved most was traveling in Europe while collecting art and framing it. He was taught by the best in the business.

Survivors include Dianne Green of Salem, Kelley Jean Jones, his loving sister from the San Francisco Bay area, and his life partner, Tamera Niesen-Byers.

Memorial service is at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at a location yet to be determined.

Lavenia Campbell, 91, of Corvallis died Aug. 11.

She was born to Elizabeth Wilson Davis and Thomas Albert Davis of Marshfield. Her father, Thomas, was killed in World War I prior to her birth.

Lavenia was raised in Marshfield, now known as Coos Bay, by her mother and her extended family. She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1937.

After graduating from high school, Lavenia began what was to become a lifelong career in the health care profession.

Lavenia married her high school sweetheart, Chester Donald Campbell, on July 20, 1939, in Oakland, Calif. Lavenia and Chester lived for many years in Coos Bay and then in Corvallis.

Throughout her life Lavenia enjoyed family, friends and traveling. She was a member of Doric Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Zuliema Temple Daughters of the Nile.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; son, Don; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet (Harold); daughter-in-law, Mary Ann (Terry); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dallas.

Jack W. Abernathy, 63, of Dallas died Aug. 9.

He was born to Wayne and Colleen Abernathy in Shawnee, Okla.

Jack was a tank commander in Germany for the military and a plans examiner for the state of Oregon.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, cars and spending time with his kids.

Survivors include his spouse, Catherine; sons, Jesse, Eric and Andrew; stepchildren, Jason Dutton and Karris O'Neil; siblings, George Abernathy, Cheri Ferrell, Sue Wilfong and Peggy Clawson; and five grandchildren.

Celebration of life and potluck is at Gentle Woods Park in Monmouth Saturday, Aug. 21, at 1:30 p.m., with visitation from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Bonnie Lynn Lenaerts, 56, of Dallas died Aug. 4.

She was born in Long Beach, Calif., to Polly and Red Olson.

She had attended La Quint High School.

Bonnie worked for the Westminister School District as a cook. She and her husband moved to Oregon in 2001.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Philippe; sister, Tammie; and brother, Carl.

Survivors include her sister, Bobbie Lynch; her children, Amanda and Darrell Nakagawa and Aron and Meagan Lenaerts; and granddaughter, Polly.
