In a story headlined "Judge needed in murder retrial," which appeared on Page 17A of the Dec. 9 issue of the Itemizer-Observer, it was incorrectly reported that Judge Fred Avera was not considered for the case, as he was Polk County district attorney when Cannon's case was tried in 1999. Avera actually was district attorney when the crime was committed in 1998. The I-O regrets the error.
