SALEM -- The Oregon Business Development Department will be taking public comment on proposed changes on 2011 Community Development Block Grant guidelines until Sept. 8.
Proposed changes will increase the maximum amount of money that can be granted for individual projects, but also limit the number and types of projects that qualify for program grants.
According to a summary of changes provided by OBDD's Infrastructure Finance Authority, the proposal is meant to decrease the administrative cost of the program. Community Development Block Grants are paid for with federal money, with a limited amount allocated to management costs. Growth in the program over the years has forced the program to use state funds to cover administration costs.
The changes also respond to rising costs of completing construction projects.
The public hearing is scheduled on Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. to noon in Salem at 775 Summer St. NE, in Conference Room 201.
