Contractors can learn about school bond projects

DALLAS -- Dallas School District and its architect, DLR Group, are inviting local contractors to a meeting next week explaining the district's upcoming construction projects.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the district office, 111 SW Ash St.

DLR Group representatives will inform local contractors about upcoming construction project schedules, estimated values, insurance, bonding and bidding requirements. They will also take comments about what will make the projects more desirable to local companies.

"State regulations require the district to award work based on the lowest responsive bid from a qualified bidder," said DLR Group Project Manager Scott Rose. "The best way for Dallas-area contractors to compete for and win the work is to stay informed about the process."

Voters approved Dallas School District's $8.6 million construction bond measure in November 2009. The bond authorizes the district to upgrade siding, gutters, flooring and plumbing at each of its schools; re-roof and improve existing roofs; renovate and upgrade parking lots; upgrade boilers and HVAC systems; and complete energy upgrades at LaCreole Middle School, Dallas High School and Morrison Campus.
