DALLAS -- The man facing charges in three cases, including a Jan. 30 stabbing incident south of Dallas, will be going to trial in April.

Jared Spencer, 22, appeared in court Monday, March 8, for scheduling. The defendant also told Polk County Circuit Judge William Horner he wanted to consider finding a new lawyer.

Spencer was arrested on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and first-degree burglary in a stabbing incident on Guthrie Road on Jan. 30. Later a charge of criminal mischief was added. An investigation into the stabbing resulted in charges of assault IV and harassment in an incident that occurred at the same location on Jan. 29.

Polk County Deputy District Attorney Sally Avera will submit a motion to consolidate the 2010 cases and a tentative trial date is set for April 14.

Spencer's lawyer at Monday's hearing, Steven Walls, said he will review that motion, which was to be submitted on Tuesday, March 9.

Spencer was to stand trial on March 18 on charges he was arrested on in June 2009, which included a charge of unlawful use of a vehicle, among others. That trial has now been postponed.
