After a late start to Pedee Memorial Evangelical Church, we arrived in plenty of time for the Sunday, Aug. 15 service.
There were no clouds in the sky and the sun was shining really bright. I was with my nephew and his wife, Larry and Mary Shellenbarger of Buena Vista.
The pastures at the dairy farm were being irrigated. Many fields had large stacks of bailed grass straw. There was little traffic. Bald Mountain could be seen at times.
People were parking when we arrived at the church. We soon got unloaded and into the foyer to find the bright yellow church bulletin that included a four-page insert titled "The Evangelical Church Team Update."
I soon got seated in the sanctuary and could look around. Dan Hayes soon arrived with his guitar. Pat Lyday arrived as did her daughter Vicki from Las Vegas. Soon Amber Lee and the children gathered near the organ. Others were filling the pews.
Hayes opened the service with prayer and then led the opening hymn "Amazing Grace." Carolyn Hall accompanied on the piano.
Pastor Mitch Lee took over for Hayes and had a short time of greetings before he explained the announcements. He took prayer requests and led the offering hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."
The children went for their lessons with Amber Lee. There was a large group this Sunday.
Pastor Lee and Hayes led the singing of three songs from the new small loose-leaf black books in the pews.
Pastor Lee's message was from Ephesians 6:19, "Submit One to Another: Part II." He closed his message with prayer.
Hayes led the closing hymn "All the Way My Savior Leads Me" and closed the service.

Pedee Church's regular "Last Saturday of the Month Movie Night" will actually be Sept. 11 next month, as this is in place of the August movie.
We waited to have it then so it will be darker earlier for our annual outdoor movie projected onto the south side of the church. The movie will be "Indescribable," which shows beautiful images of the cosmos, "allowing us to peer into God's universe to discover the amazing magnitude of His greatness and grace."
Friends and neighbors are welcome. Bring lawn chairs or whatever is comfortable for this outdoor event.

Gene and Carolyn Hall celebrated their 55th anniversary last week by going to the Cinnabar Movie Theater in Salem, where they watched a good movie while enjoying a delicious dinner.

Local residents are looking forward to the Clayton Creek Green Tomato Cheeseburger Music Festival, which will run from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, on Burbank Road, south of downtown Pedee. Admission is $3.
